Planetary Wart
GROSS DESCRIPTION: The specimen labeled "wart, right foot" consists of a skin ellipse with underlying tissue measuring 1.5x1.7 cms. On the surface is a warty outgrowth.
DIAGNOSIS: PLANTAR WART (Actual diagnosis for a simple yet not-so-small KULUGO!)
With five stitches holding my right foot muscles together, and after almost two weeks of healing, I am no longer limping. It started as a simple splinter that came out then grew to become an annoying callus. Slowly swelling inwards and outwards, from annoying my callus turned bothersome.
Thanks to my MEDICARD, I didn’t have to pay for the “operation” which by the way was another story. After all, my company is able to provide sufficient health benefit. 100,000 pesos per disease per year seems big but actually I don’t think it will be enough say if you are diagnosed with cancer or whatever. It aint that bad, it’s free anyway.
Going back to the “operation”, it was such an experience. I arrived an hour late for my scheduled surgery. Since it was a just a cherryball-candy sized hardened skin, I expected a usual operation like tooth extraction. But no! It was an “operation.” The nurse asked me to undress . . . (Unfortunately, she was not an Elle Driver type of nurse. Totally unattractive. Not that it mattered.) Yes, to wear the green lab gown used by countless grandmas and grandpas who’ve had their lung, appendix, kidney, uterus or balls removed.
Oh well . . . Who am I to complain, I am not paying for the operation anyway. In the lounge, I was the youngest. Every person wearing the same open-back-see-my-ass gown was twice or thrice as old as I am. The typical smell of hospital, which I can still remember until now, was gradually scaring me. WTF! I will have local anesthesia anyway. The doctor came in, singing “Oh carol . . .I am but a fool . . .” while sexually harassing his female assistants. After he administered the anesthesia, he carried on with the song and talked to me trying to trick me (as if I were a kid still) that he was still marking my foot for the flesh to be removed.
Five stitches and a limping right foot, I went home with my beloved. Her soup and baked potatoes alleviated the pain somehow. Thanks mahal!
